These Cars Suffer From Two Main Issues, Massive Turbo Squeals, And Boost Issues, Below Is A Short Blog On These Issues.

ZD Manifolds Have A Very Average Casting Quality From Factory, They Create a Massive Squealing Noise And Often Confuse Owners /Mechanics With a Failing Turbocharger. Quick Diag Would Be To Remove The Vac Hose Off The  Turbocharger Actuator Whilst Its Running, This Will Open The Vanes In The Turbo And Remove Backpressure, If The Noise Goes Away Its Got a Bent Manifold.

Best Practice Is To Replace With Genuine Nissan Manifold, Gasket & Heavy Duty Studs. Machining The Manifold Takes Off To Much Meat And Warps It Quicker. Note Cyl 1 & Cyl 4 Will Most Likely Have Snapped Studs.

Another Common Issue Is The Boost Solenoids, Over Time These Get Weak & Inconsistent, Adding A New Turbocharger Will Just Add To The Stress Of A Weak Controller & Give Boost Issues. When Doing Your Replacement Turbocharger, Quote Up A New Boost Solenoid (Genuine Nissan Works Best), If You Want Something Easy To Adjust, A Tillix Is A Great Set & Forget Option Also.
